Anthony Weiner (D-NY) departs after announcing his resignation from the United States House of Representatives during a news conference in Brooklyn, New York, June 16, 2011. Weiner resigned on Thursday over a weeks-long Internet sex scandal, succumbing to bipartisan calls for him to step down. “
Former House Representative Anthony Weiner’s public political demise was a direct result of his online Twitter sexual infidelity. According to the best news & politics online site, there is a definite lesson all should take from Anthony Weiner’s political disaster.

“With the news of noted members of congress getting exposed amidst Tweeted infidelity, it’s time to seriously consider the ramifications of using social networks carelessly when thinking about reputation management. Take a lesson from Weiner and simply pay more attention to the role social networks play in your personal life and seek out the potential for political fallout in the event your private life is breached. It could mean the difference between future high office and an early resignation.”

Weiner is not the only online infidelity culprit.  When looking at the data of how many online trysts cause relationship damage, and the role it plays in creating infidelity opportunities, evidence points to this being on the rise.  The Infographic below depicts the sexual revolution breaking down statistics in some categories such as infidelity rates by gender and age in the United States. The data shows there is a direct correlation between increased infidelity due to the availability of pornography on the Internet and this is playing a role in rising online affairs.  Furthermore, the graph shares statistics that online fidelity has a direct relationship with real-time sexual affairs, “31% of people have had an online conversation that has led to real-time sex.”

A related BBC news article from May 6, 2000, indicates that at the beginning of the 21st Century, more people were becoming addicted to Internet sex.  The data shows how many online trysts cause relationship damage and the role it plays in creating infidelity opportunities, which indicates a rise in Internet porn and sex behavior.

“An estimated 15% of internet users have visited sex chat rooms or pornographic sites, according to the latest research.  And almost 9% of people who use the Internet for sex spend more than 11 hours per week looking for erotic content.”

Furthermore, online sexual activities create a new dangerous compulsion that affects diverse types of people in society from the housewife to the corporate executive.  The information in this article showed there were no clear-cut lines between men and women when it came to online sexual addictions.  It pointed out that the Internet was revolutionizing sexuality.  Al Cooper, clinical director of a sexuality clinic in California stated that,

the Internet is revolutionizing sexuality cybersex was changing the definition of sexual compulsion like crack cocaine changed the field of substance abuse.”

Delving deeper and exposing the pervasiveness of net sex’s prolific relationship to the sexual appetite of those seeking pornographic materials, Jerry Ropelato put together a comprehensive statistical worldwide overview.  In this article he shares how pornography has flooded the Internet market and become an avenue to obtain more sexually explicit content.

“The statistics are truly staggering. According to compiled numbers from respected news and research organizations, every second $3,075.64 is being spent on pornography. Every second 28,258 Internet users are viewing pornography. In that same second 372 Internet users are typing adult search terms into search engines. Every 39 minutes a new pornographic video is being created in the U.S."

Online infidelity is not going to go away any time soon, especially with 24-7 access.

Randy Dotinga, who is a reporter for HealthDay, showcased a study in his article revealing how online behavior evolves into infidelity.  He offers the following definition of sexting where, “sexting is sending salacious texts or nude photos over the Internet -- is now a key tool for Americans bent on infidelity.”

Anthony Weiner sent nude photos, racy email chats and steamy locker room trash talk to several women which definitely qualifies him as one who carried on an online net sex affair.

To see the extent of the devastating extramarital affair that Anthony Weiner had with one of his online infidelity partners you can view actress Jane Lynch and Bill Maher’s video transcript animation. (The Bill Maher and Jane Lynch video transcript may be sensitive to younger viewers and contains X-rated dialogue, so proceed at your own discretion).  This is a verbatim verbiage and an interpretive enactment of the actual exchanges that Anthony Weiner had with Blackjack dealer Lisa.

There is no doubt that Anthony Weiner engaged in illicit sexually explicit and lewd behavior from the content of the conversation he had with a woman who is not his wife.  This behavior clearly indicates Weiner involved in sexual infidelity.

Diane Kholos Wysocki, gives further insight on how Anthony Weiner’s Twitter photo sex scandal indicates the pulse of the Internet community’s extra marital activities,

“Sexting, which notoriously cost former Democratic Congressman Anthony Weiner his job, is alive and well, it's a part of the whole extra-marital mating ritual where adulterous interactions that begin online seem to follow a regular pattern where People meet, then they send pictures, then they send naked pictures, then they proceed and ultimately meet if they find that they're compatible.”

What is even more provocative is there are online sites dedicated to promoting extramarital affairs, which are thriving and growing in usage.  One example is the controversial ashleymadison.com site, whose motto is "Life is short. Have an affair.”

According to a new study by Diane Kholos Wysocki, from the University of Nebraska at Kearney, and Cheryl Childers, from Washburn University in Topeka, Kansas, part of their research demonstrated how Internet behavior is affecting personal real life relationships with the increase of sexting and legitimizes that sexting in fact contributes to online infidelity segueing into real-life affairs.

It is apparent that from Kholos Wysocki D & Childers report that sexting does help contribute to the need for engaging in behavior that will eventually lead to face-to-face encounters.

“Sexting is a fairly new phenomenon, where adults send their nude photographs and sexually explicit text messages to another adult to turn them on and increase the likelihood of a sexual relationship. At the same time, the Internet has made the act of infidelity much easier. Over two-thirds of the respondents had cheated online while in a serious relationship and over three-quarters had cheated in real life. Women and men were just as likely to have cheated both online and in real life while in a serious real-life relationship. In addition, older men were more likely than younger men to cheat in real life. Our research suggests that as technology changes, the way people find each other and the way they attract a potential partner also changes. While social networking sites are increasingly being used for social contact, people continue to be more interested in real-life partners, rather than online partners. It seems that, at some point in a relationship, we need the physical, face-to-face contact. Part of the reason for this may be that, ultimately, humans are social creatures.”

The online environment promotes the development of continual sexually charged conversations.  Nude and illicit photo exchanges and heightened carnal anticipation where both partners succumb acting on their torrid Internet affairs translates into real-life physically and sexually gratifying rendezvous.

In the case of Weiner and others who have been ousted due to their online sexual conquests and inability to cover up their lewd extramarital affairs, Twitter sex and salacious cyber chats did lead to his political resignation and possibly marital demise.

Are the covers blown off to the rise of net sex?  The answer is yes.
